How to Care for a Body Wave Wig: Keep It Soft & Bouncy

Why Proper Care Matters

A body wave wig is one of the most beautiful and versatile styles you can own — those soft, natural-looking waves turn heads everywhere. But to keep your wig looking its best, it needs the right care routine. With proper maintenance, a 100% human hair body wave wig can last 1–3 years. Neglect it and you'll see frizz, tangling, and dullness within weeks.

How Often Should You Wash a Body Wave Wig?

Wash your body wave wig every 7–14 wears, or sooner if you've been sweating, using heavy products, or wearing it in humid conditions. Over-washing strips the hair of its natural moisture, so don't wash it more than once a week unless necessary.

What You'll Need

  • Sulphate-free shampoo
  • Deep conditioner or hair mask
  • Wide-tooth comb
  • Microfibre towel
  • Wig stand
  • Leave-in conditioner (optional)
  • Heat protectant spray (if heat styling)

Step-by-Step Washing Guide

  1. Detangle first — gently comb through the wig with a wide-tooth comb before wetting it, working from the ends up to the roots
  2. Rinse with cool water — hold the wig under cool running water, letting it flow downward to avoid tangling
  3. Shampoo gently — apply a small amount of sulphate-free shampoo and work it through the hair in a downward motion. Never scrub in circles
  4. Rinse thoroughly — make sure all shampoo is removed
  5. Deep condition — apply conditioner from mid-length to ends, leave for 5–10 minutes, then rinse
  6. Pat dry — gently squeeze out excess water with a microfibre towel. Never rub or wring
  7. Air dry on a wig stand — allow the wig to dry naturally. Avoid direct sunlight or heat sources

How to Restore the Body Wave Pattern

After washing, the wave pattern may loosen slightly. To restore it:

  • While the hair is still damp, scrunch sections upward with your hands to encourage the wave pattern
  • Apply a small amount of curl-enhancing cream or mousse
  • Allow to air dry completely without touching
  • Once dry, gently shake out the waves with your fingers

Heat Styling Tips

Because our body wave wigs are made from 100% human hair, you can use heat tools — but always use a heat protectant spray first. Keep your curling wand or straightener below 180°C (356°F) to avoid damage. Limit heat styling to 1–2 times per week to preserve the hair's natural texture and longevity.

Storage Tips

  • Store on a wig stand or mannequin head to maintain the shape
  • Keep away from direct sunlight and humidity
  • If storing long-term, place in a silk or satin bag
  • Never store a damp wig — always ensure it's fully dry first

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • ❌ Using sulphate or alcohol-based products — these dry out the hair
  • ❌ Brushing when dry — always detangle when damp or use a wide-tooth comb
  • ❌ Sleeping in your wig without a satin cap — friction causes frizz and tangling
  • ❌ Skipping conditioner — moisture is everything for body wave hair
